I am going to give you two real examples of hotel experiences Matt and I faced. Please read the two experiences and answer the following questions below.
Hotel 1
- I email the concierge a few weeks in advance. I receive a response within 12 hours with detailed information and answers to my question.
- When we arrive, the door man opened our taxi door, his associate walked us to the reception desk while he handled our luggage and nicely told us that they will all be placed in our room.
- The reception desk was in fact a couch where the concierge sat us down and informally checked us in over complimentary drinks. We were surrounded by fresh flowers.
- We were escorted to our room where our bags were already in our rooms
Hotel 2
- I could not find the concierge’s email address and sent a message via Facebook. After a few days I received a reply with just the email address no niceties.
- I sent an email to the concierge and did not hear back for almost 2 weeks.
- When we arrived, no door man appeared to help us with our luggage or opened the doors for us.
- Check-in was no different than a Hampton Inn. They gave us a bottle of water which was nice
- We took our luggage upstairs and got settled.
Quiz Time
- Which hotel was more expensive?
- Hotel 1
- Hotel 2
- Same Price (within 50 dollars)
- Which Hotel was the 5-star hotel
- Hotel 1
- Hotel 2
- All of the Above
- Neither
Answers
- Hotel 2
- All of the Above
As you can see being a 5-star hotel does not guarantee luxury or good value. Hotel 1 was the St. Regis Mexico City (600USD a night) while Hotel 2 was the Ritz Carlton Fort Lauderdale (900 USD a night)
