The St. Regis Bangkok is a luxury hotel in the Siam district
of the city. We stayed at this property before and after our week in Koh Samui
so I will combine both experiences into one for the review. That bodes well for
the property as it was consistently excellent.
Booking
We used cash for the St. Regis as hotels in Bangkok are
inexpensive. When using cash for a luxury Marriott property, make sure you book
through a Marriott Stars travel advisor. It costs the same as booking through Marriott
but all Stars rates include;
ü
Gift on arrival
ü
Free breakfast for 2
ü
100 property credit for meals or spa
ü
Upgraded room
Ilay Avni is
our wonderful Stars advisor and he would be more than happy to help you.
Location
Siam is an area where luxury shopping, restaurants and
hotels shine. Those seeking more of a party scene may not love the location,
but for those of us old folk, it was perfect.
Concierge
A concierge at a luxury property is such an underrated complimentary
resource. I usually contact them 1-2 months out to book airport transfers and ask
for local restaurant recommendations. Even if I already have a restaurant I
want to try, I always ask as it is a great way to build a list for each city
you visit.
I had a minor problem where I relied on the concierge to
save me. I am blessed with very waxy ears and the combination of that
and the ocean water from snorkeling in Koh Samui made cleaning out my ear a
necessity. I was able to find ear wax cleaning drops in Koh Samui, but I could
not find a syringe to shoot the water into my ear. I knew my only chance was
Bangkok as our private island in the Maldives would not have it, so I emailed the
St. Regis Bangkok concierge 12 hours before checking in. Sure enough, they were
easily able to procure one for me and had it in our room upon arrival. I will write
a future post on my love for hotel concierges.
Arrival and Checking-In
The arrival and check-in process were identical on both
visits. We were dropped off at the front entry way and several doormen greeted
us by name, took our luggage and escorted us to the elevator that would take us
to the reception area. Formalities were quick and on both occasions we were
upgraded due to status and our Stars Rate. Our luggage was already in our room once
we made it upstairs.
The Suite

This room was almost bigger than our house. I will let the pictures
speak for themselves, but absolutely incredible with beautiful views and comfy
bed. The hotel also left us treats and decorated our room for our anniversary.

Pool and Gym

For an urban hotel, the rooftop pool and gym were wonderful. We
spent our full day after our 22 hour flight relaxing by the pool and sipping on
coconut iced coffees. The gym was well stocked with good equipment.

Service
As with all St. Regis hotels, service was impeccable. The
butlers delivered coffee to our room on demand and all the staff we interacted
with addressed us by name which is classy.
Breakfast
Breakfast was included in our rate and due to our status. This
had to be one of the most over the top breakfast buffets I have ever enjoyed at
a hotel. Between typical western options, Chinese, Thai and Indian, no one
would go hungry. Coffee and espresso drinks were made to order. It is hard not
to stuff yourself to the gills. Now compare these photos with your typical
Marriott in the USA.

Dinner and Viu
There are a few restaurants at this property including a
Michelin starred one. We ate at the main hotel restaurant one night with our
credit. The food and service were okay, but it was missing the oomph the rest
of the hotel had. To be fair, they have nicer restaurants as we only dined at Viu
cause it was free and we were exhausted 😊.
Overall
I think Matt and I found our standard Bangkok hotel. Outside
one meh dinner, it was perfect.
